Chromium carbide (Cr₃C₂) powders are trusted across sectors where high temperatures, chemical exposure and mechanical wear converge. Often used as an alternative to tungsten carbide, chromium carbide powders offer excellent oxidation resistance and corrosion protection, especially in aggressive or high-temperature environments.
We offer a range of agglomerated and sintered Cr₃C₂-based powders engineered for demanding applications. Each product is manufactured under strict quality controls for reliability and repeatable results.
An excellent all-rounder for corrosion and erosion resistance. Produces dense, well-bonded, and low-porosity coatings that excel at elevated temperatures up to 870°C (1600°F), where tungsten carbide coatings would degrade. Excellent hard chrome plating alternative.
Typical uses: In demanding environments: gas turbine engine components, boiler tubes in power generation, furnace rolls in metal production and hydraulic piston rods.
High hardness and excellent resistance to oxidation, corrosion and wear, especially in high-temperature environments. Enhanced resistance to chlorides, acids and alkaline conditions. Suitable for more chemically aggressive applications than Cr₃C₂-20(NiCr).
Typical uses: For protecting components in gas turbines, furnace rolls, boiler tubes, hydraulic piston rods and chemical processing equipment exposed to high-temperature wear and corrosion.
A high-performance option combining Cr₃C₂ and WC for maximum hardness and stability. Ideal for parts exposed to extreme thermal and mechanical stress. Resistance to high-temperature corrosion and oxidation up to 870 °C (1600 °F).
Typical uses: For gas turbines, furnace rolls, chemical processing equipment, and oil and gas sector parts exposed to combined wear and high-temperature corrosion.
While we offer a wide selection of standard hardfacing powders, our true value lies in collaboration. We work closely with customers to develop customised powders that meet specific performance, process and environmental requirements.
Together, we can explore tailored powder microstructures to achieve the optimal balance of wear resistance, toughness and processability for your applications.
Whether you are working on hardfacing, additive manufacturing, or surface engineering projects, we can help unlock the full potential of your processes.
At Powderloop, we don’t just supply powders, we help you solve material challenges. Our powders are manufactured and tested in the UK, and we collaborate closely with customers to develop solutions that meet specific performance and process targets.
We specialise in:
Wear, thermal and corrosion resistance.
Tailored particle size distributions.
REACH-compliant, UK-based supply.
